Seasons of Art

The opening reception of this student and artist exhibition was held on Friday December 11th, from 5:30-7:30pm at the Greater Carbondale Area Chamber of Commerce. The Main Street Gallery, established in spring of 2009, is located in the heart of Carbondale, PA and housed in the historic Dime Bank building. The Main Street Gallery's mission is to bringing an awareness and appreciation of the arts to the community and to encourage community members to pursue their talents and interest in fine art through education and special events. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm and by appointment.

Works on view include painting, sculpture, photography, glass, and jewelry by local area artists, Marywood University graduate students, young students from the NEPA School of Art, and students from Virginia Sosik's art class. As part of Scranton's First Friday in October 2009, this exhibit will showcase works by Marywood University art students Rob Hay, Cathy Noto, Christa Felice, Heather Remley, Jen Bulay, Gabrielle Stephenson, Brie T. Cha, Ryan Hnat, Kayla Cady, Sue Jenkins, Maria Stakias, Marguerite Innes, Skip Sensbach, Jay Niznik, Aunie Frisch, Bethany Dansen, Chistine Mariani, Ryan Ward, Kelli Cali, Martha Moore Westbrook, Sarah Schimeneck, Corrie Grant, Gillian Hanlon. With live music by acoustic duo Sam and Pam.

While celebrating their new store's grand opening, Saturday August 8th, Dream In Plastic will also be hosting its very first gallery exhibit: Analog: A Plastic Camera Photo Exhibit. This exhibit will showcase the wonderful characteristics of photographs taken with plastic or toy cameras like the Holga, Diana, Blackbird, fly, ColorSplash, and Dalek Supersampler. This exhibit will highlight the unexpected quirks, mishaps, colors, vignetting, light leaks, and all happy accidents that often occur with a plastic camera.

‘Next Generation 2009’, an exhibition of the works of emerging artists in northeastern Pennsylvania, will be held at the AFA Gallery from Thursday, April 30, through Saturday, May 30. There will be an Opening Reception on Friday, May 1st, from 6 to 8 PM. There will be an Artists’ Talk at 5:30 PM on Friday, May 1st, at which time the artists who are a part of the exhibit will discuss their works. The exhibit will consist of works by emerging artists of Northeastern Pennsylvania, curated by Elizabeth Hughes.

The AFA Gallery has hosted the NEXT GENERATION exhibition for a number of years. Its purpose is to expose the region to the artwork of the next, emerging generation of visual artists. It is expected that 5-10 artists will be selected to have their work featured in the exhibition. Curator Elizabeth Hughes will select one work for purchase by the AFA Gallery, which will be raffled off. Featured artists include: Matthew L. Colaizzo, Sean Costello, Christa Felice, Ryan Hnat, Sue Jenkins, Russ Noto, Heather Remley, and Marian M. Wezmar.

Curated by faculty at Marywood University and sponsored by Marquis Art & Frame, this jurried exhibition showcases the works of 19 Marywood University students. Of the 230 works entered by 76 students, 23 works by 19 students were chosen for this show. Art on exhibit includes photography, painting, mixed-media, and sculpture. Featured artists include: Bethany Dansen, Crista Felice, Erin Hall, Heather Remley, Jonathan Jenkins, Josh Wagner, Kelli Cali, Kristi Castillo, Lisa Hanselman, Marguerite Innes, Marthew L. Colaizzo, Meg Kamosky, Michael B. Harris, Ryan Hnat, Sue Jenkins, Tim Meyers, Tyler M. Harrington, Valerie Shimonis, and Victoria Scaturro.
